Understanding Why Brow Pigments Appear Warmer Initially and How They Heal Over Time

If your brows look warmer or more vibrant immediately after your PMU session, don’t worry—this is a normal part of the healing process. Here’s why it happens and what you can expect as your brows heal.

  1. Skin Reaction and Redness

The process of brow tattooing involves creating tiny, controlled trauma to the skin. This can cause mild irritation and redness, which enhances the warmth of the pigment initially. This temporary warmth, combined with the fresh colour, often makes your brows appear warmer right after the procedure.

  2. Oxidation of the Pigment

When the pigment first meets air, it undergoes oxidation, temporarily increasing the warmth of the colour. As the pigment settles deeper into the skin and begins to heal, the oxidation fades, revealing a cooler and softer tone.

  3. Initial Saturation of the Pigment

Right after application, the pigment sits closer to the skin’s surface, making it look more saturated and vibrant. As the skin heals and exfoliates, the colour softens, cools down, and settles into a more balanced shade.

  4. Starting Conservatively to Account for Healing

This is why I start with a conservative shade. I anticipate the initial warmth and vibrancy, choosing a colour that will settle beautifully as it heals. By trusting this process, we ensure that your final, healed brows look natural and aligned with the intended tone.
